Dr. Brandon Penrod announced his resignation as Whitko Community Schools superintendent, citing a new job offering more family time as his reason for leaving.
“It’s a good offer and better for my family,” Penrod said Monday. “I’ll have more time to be a dad.”
Penrod and his wife have six children and three grandchildren.
His last day is Feb. 19 and he will attend the Feb. 15 school board meeting.
“We’ve put together a team that has accomplished a lot and will continue to move forward,” he said. “It’s been a good job, offered my first superintendency and people here have been nice to me. I’ll always remember the opportunity I’ve been given. The upcoming job will be different and better for me and my family. I really wish everyone the best, and I’m committed to a good transition. I have nothing but good to say about Whitko and hope I can help as much as they want me to.”
Administrators, teachers and staff members were told about the resignation at the end of last week.
“Dr. Penrod accomplished so much in such a short time,” said Whitko School Board President Lynn Studebaker. “We understand his wishes to be near to his family and wish him well in his next endeavours.”
Penrod was hired Sept. 18, 2018, with an annual salary of $113,000. He leaves Whitko two years and five months later with an annual salary of $134,121.68.
Three-term school board member Georgia Tenney said, “We are losing probably the best superintendent we’ve ever had. He’s brought us so far, giving us new ideas, and new ways of doing things. He’ll be greatly missed by the public, by the board, by the teachers, by everybody.”
