A request to support an upcoming Senate Bill was discussed at Tuesday’s Kosciusko County commissioners meeting.
Highway Superintendent Steve Moriarty brought forward a letter to the commissioners that support SB 207, which would change the 50/50 split of money into restricted and unrestricted motor vehicle funds to a 60/40 split. Restricted funds are used for roadway construction, reconstruction and preservation, while unrestricted funds go toward things such as plowing snow, pothole patching, signage and more.

Moriarty said the change could help the department be more flexible in how dollars are spent, which right now are showing a shortfall in the unrestricted funds. The commissioners unanimously approved the request and the letters will be sent to Representatives Craig Snow and Curt Nisly.
