Syracuse Police Arrest Woman For False Rape Report

A Topeka woman was arrested for lying to Syracuse police about being raped by her ex-husband.
Deybrean Lynn Gangwer, 32, Topeka, was arrested for level six felony perjury Thursday morning, according to the probable cause affidavit provided by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
Gangwer went to the Syracuse Police Department on Sept. 18 to file a rape complaint, the report states. Gangwer told police that on Sept. 8, she was sleeping at her grandparents’ house when her ex-husband woke her up to forcibly have sex with her and then left.
Police spoke to Gangwer’s mother, who said that the story was a lie and that Gangwer’s current husband told her to make up the story. Police then spoke with Gangwer again on Sept. 28, when she said that she had made up the story because her husband told her to.
Gangwer was booked into Kosciusko County Jail with a $5,250 bond.
