The community gathered Saturday night to raise funds for the Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County.
Approximately $35,000 was raised during a live and silent auction at the annual Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko Gala and Auction at Tippecanoe Country Club. The committee is still working on final numbers for corporate sponsorships and donations.
The gala was attended by 110 people, according to Rebecca Spitler, gala chair.
The theme for this year’s gala was “A Masquerade Ball – Unmasking the Giving Spirit in Kosciusko County.”
The event included dinner, a live and silent auction and music by Sum Of Three.
The Cancer Care fund assists patients with expenses such as rent, mortgages, electic bills and prescriptions.
There were 130 live auction items people could bid on. Some of the items included a stay at a cottage in Gatlinburg, Tenn.; Indianapolis Colts tickets and a Walter Payton painting.
People also could donate funds for gas, utilities, car payments and rent and mortgage assistance for a month.
There also were silent auction items. Examples included John Deere toys, a Longaberger basket and a cooking package.
Julia Moore, Cancer Care committee member, provided opening remarks and a prayer and spoke about the importance of the fund.
“I speak with many area families that have been able to utilize the fund, and at times it makes the difference between getting to treatments, paying their mortgage or buying food for their family,” Moore said. “I am continually amazed at the way our community bonds together and takes care of one another.”
