FORT WAYNE (Network Indiana) — The man accused of killing a mother and three children in Ft. Wayne early Wednesday morning, was caught by Indiana State Police in Lafayette, Wednesday afternoon.
Cohen Hancz-Barron was named by friends of the family of the victims as the man they believe killed them. He had a warrant out for his arrest after walking away from a facility in Tippecanoe County. He had been serving time there for armed robbery in Starke County.
Court records indicate Barron was sentenced to six years for that armed robbery, in 2020.
Police did not make it clear why they think the murders happened. They began looking for Barron late Wednesday morning.
The family of the victims released a statement:
“This is a very devastating time for our family. Please give us time to process the horrific events that have occurred today. Our daughter was a very special person to our family. Please be respectful of our family’s privacy at this time.”
