Experts Say West Nile Still Possible Until First Freeze

It's getting cooler outside, but that doesn't mean the threat of the West Nile virus is over. 12 Hoosiers have been diagnosed with the West Nile virus–including two who have died. State health official Jennifer Brown says the cool weather doesn't mean Hoosiers are safe yet. That's because the virus won't go away until we have our first hard freeze. West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes in 69 Indiana counties so far this year. In 2014, 10 people were sickened by the virus, but no one died.
