Edgewood Middle School announced that during their annual food drive they collected over 12,250 items, valued at nearly $17,250, that will help the community.
Principal JoElla Hauselman thanked everyone who helped by bringing in items, donating money and giving their time and energy to carry, sort and organize the items and boxes.
Items were assigned point values, and the Student Resource Time (SRT) class then earned points by bringing in the items, according to a news release from Warsaw Community Schools. This year, students were rewarded with a trip to North Pointe Cinema to watch “Elf,” followed by a celebration in the afternoon that will include several activities for the students.
In addition, the three classes that earned the highest percentage of their goal won prizes. The first-place winners got their choice between ice cream sundaes or pizza, second-place got whichever first place didn’t want and third place got cookies. The top class was Mrs. Helser’s, earning almost 17 times their goal. Second place was Mrs. Thompson, and third went to Mr. Cook.
Tammy Adameic said $15,665 was collected in donations total from local businesses, families and fundraisers to help purchase many items for the family boxes. A total of $2,000 was donated to Our Father’s House; and $2,000 was donated to Combined Community Services. Sixty family boxes were donated to Edgewood Middle School families, employees and others. Approximately 7,000 items were donated to CCS, Our Father’s House and The Beaman Home.
Edgewood Middle School thanks all who contributed and take this opportunity to wish the community a happy holiday, the release states.
