LaVerne “Vern, Sam, Sammy” L. Hibner Sr., 88 went home to be with the lord after a short illness on January 20, 2022 at 8:50 p.m. at the Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka, Indiana. On April 4, 1933 in Elwood, Illinois he was born to LeRoy and Georgia (Miller) Hibner. He’s lived most of his life in Fulton/Marshall Counties, Indiana communities.
On November 16, 1951 in Rochester, Indiana he married Eileen M. Kelly and together they shared the past 70 years.
Vern worked as a carpenter and farmer. He was a member of the Richland Center United Methodist Church, Richland Center, Indiana; and was a member of the Manitou Moose Lodge 1107, Rochester, Indiana.
Vern loved his family and to be in the dirt, farming and gardening. He especially loved sharing his garden’s bounty every summer with his family, friends, and neighbors. Alongside Eileen, they spent many hours canning, baking, cooking, traveling and camping. For many years he looked forward to hosting family and friends for a bluegill fry. Whenever possible you would find Vern dropping a fishing line anywhere there was water.
Vern will be lovingly remembered by his Wife – Eileen Hibner of Plymouth, Indiana
Daughters – Vicki Dreibelbis and husband Charlie of Rochester, Indiana; Tamara Freyberg and husband Gerald of Jackson, Michigan; Lisa Campbell and husband Charles of Argos, Indiana.
Sons – LaVerne Hibner Jr. and wife Patricia of St. Cloud, Florida; and Gerald Hibner of Rochester, Indiana
11 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren
Sisters – Carol Smith and husband Larry of Rochester, Indiana; and Cheryl Bright of Rochester, Indiana
Brother – Dr. Dan Hibner of Indianapolis, Indiana
He is preceded in death by his: Parents, Grandson – Kevin Shafer, and Brothers – Don ‘Butch” Hibner, Robert “Bob” Hibner, and Joe Hibner.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday January 28, 2022 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, 503 Jefferson St., Rochester, Indiana. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. John Oerter of the Community Presbyterian Church, Rochester, Indiana.
