Rev. Henry Van Sprunger and Karen Jo (Matz) Sprunger

Rev. Henry Van Sprunger, 65 of Culver, Indiana passed away on February 7, 2022 at 7:16 p.m. at the St. Joseph Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana. On March 1, 1956 in Jackson, Michigan he was born to Roy Charles Sprunger and Dula May (Robinson) Sprunger. He has lived in the Culver community since 1995, coming from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

On March 18, 1982 in Coldwater, Michigan he married Karen Jo Matz and together they would share the next 40 years. Karen passed away on January 25, 2022.

Henry was the Pastor at Poplar Grove Church, Culver, Indiana and Santa Anna Church, Argos, Indiana.

He was a member of the Maxinkuckee Odd Fellows, Lodge #373, Culver, Indiana and Collins Tasch American Legion Post 399 Monterey, Indiana. Henry was a graduate of Vandercook Lake  High School with the class of 1974. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from June 24, 1974 and on June 23, 1978 Corporal Sprunger received his Honorable discharge.

Henry is survived by his Daughters – April Mayo of Jackson, Michigan; and Holly Washburn and husband Jeff of Jackson, Michigan.

He is preceded in death by his: Parents, Wife – Karen Jo Sprunger, Brothers – Roy M. Sprunger and Lloyd L. Sprunger; Sisters – Judy Sprunger and Kris Tina Sprunger

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday February 26, 2022 from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church, 570 N. Michigan St., Argos, Indiana.

Memorial Services for Henry and Karen will follow at 2:00 p.m.

Karen Jo (Matz) Sprunger, 62 of Culver, Indiana passed away on January 25, 2022 at 5:38 p.m. at Saint Joseph Health System, Plymouth, Indiana. On June 3, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois she was born to Leo Matz and Joan (Kelly) Matz. She has lived in the Culver community since 1995, coming from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

On March 18, 1982 in Coldwater, Michigan she married Henry V. Sprunger and together they would share the next 40 years.

In her career Karen had been a bank teller for 1st Source bank. During Karen’s tenure with 1st Source Bank she achieved Teller of The Year award.  She was a member of Santa Anna Church and Poplar Grove Church.

Karen enjoyed many crafts among them; jewelry making, crocheting and making ornaments. She was a lover of animals especially her beloved cat Gretel. Her and Henry enjoyed camping and would host a camp out at their country home every 4th of July. Family would come and share a few days of what they called “Tent City” where tents would be pitched with games played and sitting around the campfire in the evenings. Karen always had crafts for the young to do during these special times.

Karen will be dearly missed by her Husband, Henry Sprunger of Culver, Indiana, daughters, April Mayo and Holly Washburn and husband Jeff of Jackson, Michigan.

Sister – Renee Blankson of Houston, Texas

Brother – Kelly Matz and wife Kim of Portage, Michigan

Sister-in-law  –  Beverly Scott

Many nieces/ nephews and great nieces/ nephews.

Very dear friend –  Tecka Preston and family

She is preceded in death by her parents
