MENTONE – Aaron Engbrecht, business teacher at Tippecanoe Valley High School, was named the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation Teacher of the Year, as well as the TVHS Teacher of the Year.
The announcement was made during the Tippecanoe Valley School Board meeting Monday, where the Board announced the Teachers of the Year for Akron Elementary, Mentone Elementary and Tippecanoe Valley Middle School, as well.
Inga Omondi, curriculum director at TVSC, said this is the fourth year of TVSC participating in the state-led program.
Omondi said every year that she has overseen the program for the school corporation, she has done a video that highlights the process and announces the school building Teacher of the Year and the district Teacher of the Year.
Each year, the Indiana Department of Education conducts the Indiana Teacher of the Year program to recognize outstanding classroom teachers throughout the state. School corporations are encouraged to nominate one district Teacher of the Year to be considered Indiana Teacher of the Year. The Indiana Teacher of the Year is then selected to represent Indiana teachers at the National Teacher of the Year program.
In the video, announcing Engbrecht’s nomination as Teacher of the Year for TVHS and TVSC, he is cited as being a rock for the school and school corporation. He makes his colleagues better and is very intelligent. The number one compliment that is received is people want Engbrecht as people’s kids’ teacher.
Fifth-grade teacher Susan Walker was named as Teacher of the Year for Akron Elementary.
Special education teacher Cathy Olson was named as Teacher of the Year for TVMS.
Second-grade teacher Alisa Baker was named as Teacher of the Year for Mentone Elementary.
