WARSAW — The two Penguin Point restaurants in Warsaw remained open Friday night despite a few disgruntled workers including one who claimed all of the stores in the chain closed Friday.
A former employee who quit Friday told local media that a walkout by employees led to the closure of all stores.
However, the two stores in Warsaw remained open early Friday night.
A manager who asked not to be identified confirmed that many employees were upset after a delay in processing paychecks.
Employees normally are paid on Friday morning, but payments were delayed. Those checks were eventually sent out by about 5 p.m.
The manager admitted the company is struggling financially but said he thought some workers had “over-reacted.”
The company, which was sold a few years ago, closed several stores a few weeks ago, including one on Lake Street in Warsaw.
He said he was unsure of the status of the company’s other stores.
Other stores are in Wabash, Auburn, Elkhart, Syracuse, Columbia City, North Manchester and South Bend
