WARSAW — Construction of a lift station and extension of sewer lines at the Warsaw Municipal Airport led to the discovery of an old landfill that is adding to the cost of the project.
Jeremy Skinner, the city’s community and economic development director, told the redevelopment commission on Monday that airport officials had suspected an old dump was located underground, and sure enough – construction crews found it.
As a result, the materials will have to be trucked away and sent to a landfill.
On top of that, there are more costs associated with bringing in sand and limestone.
The current estimated cost is expected to be about $143,000, but Skinner said the price could still rise because the work is not yet complete.
Construction of a lift station and a sewer line is in the works to replace an aging septic system at the airport.
