WARSAW — For perhaps the first time ever, Kosciusko County will use a financial consultant to oversee its finances.
For the next six months, the county will give the concept a test run.
The county is going to hire Reedy Financial Group for a six-month trial run beginning immediately at a cost of $30,000.
Officials believe the firm can help keep the county on top of new funding opportunities and abreast of new state laws that could make a financial impact.
County Councilwoman Kathy Groninger said the company stands out as one of the top consultants in the state.
She said county government is getting more complicated these days.
She presented the plan to the commissioners on Tuesday.
“We’re having lots more money coming from the state and we just think it would be beneficial to us to have somebody give us some advice who is working around the state and seeing different ideas that are working elsewhere,” Groninger said.
“We feel like we’re on the verge of some growth in our county and it would be helpful to have advisors,” she said.
The use of consultants by cities and counties is fairly common.
The idea was first proposed by the county council and was embraced by the county commissioners on Tuesday.
Groninger said the company will present quarterly updates that will be open to the public.
