INDIANAPOLIS — Following months of contract disputes with running back Jonathan Taylor, the Indianapolis Colts have granted him a three-year contract extension worth $42 million.
ESPN reports that Taylor is guaranteed to earn $26.5 million, which means he will be one of the National Football League’s highest-paid running backs.
Taylor’s future with the team had been in limbo, between the contract disputes and his lengthy stay on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
But, the Hoosier team also announced Saturday that Taylor has been activated. So, Colts fans could see him on the field as early as Sunday, when the team plays the Tennessee Titans.
Colts.com reporter JJ Stankevitz reported the following Saturday afternoon:
“Jonathan is a special player and signing him to this extension is important knowing the impact he’ll make as the team develops under Shane Steichen,” Colts Owner and CEO Jim Irsay said. “I have no doubt he’ll continue to create highlight plays and memories for Colts fans as he’s done in his three seasons thus far. Jonathan deserves this deal and I’m happy for him.”
The Colts will play the Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium. The game will start at 1 p.m.
