The Indiana State Board of Education and the Indiana Department of Education will decide whether the state needs to rescore last year’s ISTEP tests under a bill that has cleared a House committee.
The proposal approved Tuesday originally required the state to rescore all of the tests. After an estimate placed the cost of such a step at nearly $10 million, bill author and Indianapolis Republican Bob Behning scaled down the proposal to require rescoring only a sample of the exams.
Behning says a question remains as to whether a rescoring is even necessary, so the bill puts that decision into the hands of the State Board and the Department of Education.
