WARSAW — One person is dead and another is facing a drunk driving charge after an overnight crash in Kosciusko County.
The single-vehicle crash happened on East Epworth Forrest Road at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, accoording to news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.
Police believe 21-year old Victor Waikel was northbound on Epworth and for an unknown reason, left the roadway, striking a tree on a 90-degree curve.
Thirty-six year old Ricardo L. Garcia of North Webster was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office. Garcia was a rear-seat passenger and was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Another passenger complained of pain, but refused medical treatment.
Waikel, the driver, was treated and released from Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital and faces a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated.
