WARSAW — Substantial damage occurred within the Danco Medical facility from the fire Thursday, according to an update Friday.
However, minimal environmental impact occurred, according to the update provided by Warsaw Police Department Public Information Officer Chris Francis on behalf of Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Chief Joel Shilling.
The majority of the runoff was treated by the city of Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The fire department was dispatched at 11:52 a.m. Thursday to a reported electrical fire at Danco Medical, 905 Executive Drive, Warsaw. A nearby WPD officer saw heavy smoke billowing from the structure.
Due to the presence of hazardous materials inside the facility, the Elkhart Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team and the Indiana Department of Emergency Management were requested.
Also responding to the scene were the Winona Lake Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, Warsaw Public Works, Warsaw Wastewater Utility, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Kosciusko County Health Department, Elkhart County Emergency Management, Burket Fire Department and the Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory.
The fire was under control by 2:27 p.m. Thursday.
The origin and cause remain under investigation.
