As human trafficking continues to be a problem nationwide, a notable abduction survivor will be speaking in South Bend.
Elizabeth Smart was abducted in 2002 from her Salt Lake City home at the age of 14 and suffered through nine months of captivity. Since her rescue, she has gone on to be an advocate for other child abduction victims.
She will be talking at the Century Center at 6 p.m. on April 11 on behalf of the Family and Children’s Center in South Bend in order to draw awareness to National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
She also will sign copies of her book “My Story”. It’s recommended that children under 12 years old be kept at home due to the sensitive nature of Smart’s story.
