Local financial planner Alan Alderfer has announced he is running for the Indiana House of Representatives in the May 2020 primary election as a Republican.

Alderfer is vying for the District 18 seat, which is currently held by David Wolkins, who announced that he will not be running for re-election. District 18 covers Wabash County, along with parts of Kosciusko, Miami and Grant Counties.

Alderfer mentioned that he has spent his 26 year career working with clients throughout northern Indiana, listening to issues and taking extra time to listen and work on solutions for them, something he does every day. “This listening skill is what I want to bring to District 18.”

Along with his career, he is very active in the community, the co-founder of the Kosciusko County Riley Kids Fund and was named Man of the Year by the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce in 2013.

He is a 1986 Warsaw Community High School graduate, a 1991 graduate of Ball State University and has continued his education with executive courses through Northwestern/Kellogg, the Duke Fuqua School of Business, the Wharton School of Business, and the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.

He has been married to his wife Kristine for 25 years and has twin 13-year old daughters, Caroline and Katherine. Katherine has been fighting a rare chronic disease called Juvenile Dermatomyositis since she was four years old. She has also been named a representative of the Riley Children’s Foundation as a Riley Champion.

“I believe in hard work, strong families and spiritual values. I am committed to making improvements in health care, education, small business development and in the lives of the people of District 18,” Alderfer added.
