WARSAW — An amnesty program established earlier this year by the Kosciusko County Solid Waste District that allows county residents to drop off electronics like TVs free of change looks as if it will become permanent.

That’s the word from Tom Ganser, executive director of the solid waste district who talked with News Now Warsaw for this week’s edition of In The Know, the public affair shppw uou can hear today and this weekend on Kensington Digital Media radio stations.

The amnesty program was announced in March.

The change came after elected officials pointed out that people continue to dump off electronics along roadsides.

Officials determined the board could absorb the loss of income if it extended the amnesty.

Electronics had been accepted at the KC Recycling Deport based on the weight of the materials.

Ganser also talked about how the private sector has filled the gaps across much of the county after the solid waste district discontinued its nine drop-off sites for recyclables several years ago.

He also discussed other aspects of the recycling industry.

The KC Recycling Depot is located at 220 S. Union St., Warsaw.

Here is a recap of items regularly accepted at the recycling depot:

  • Electronics,
  • Paints and stains
  • Household Chemicals
  • Batteries
  • Mercury Products
  • Medical Sharps
  • Gasoline
  • Oil and oil filters
  • Antifreeze
  • Ink Cartridges
  • Books
