SYRACUSE — A longtime educator at Wawasee High School is retiring, opening up the door for a teacher to be promoted.

After 37 years of dedicated service as a basketball coach, teacher, and administrator, Wawasee High School Assistant Principal John Snyder has announced his retirement, closing a remarkable chapter in Indiana public education.

Snyder served in various roles at Whitley County Consolidated Schools (Columbia City), Warsaw High School, Whitko Jr/Sr High School, and most recently, Wawasee High School.

His legacy is one of steady leadership, a deep commitment to school improvement, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student, according to a news release from the school district.

“Looking back, I’m most proud of the progress we made in each school I had the privilege to serve,” said Snyder. “I’ve been fortunate to work alongside incredibly talented and caring teachers, and to witness countless students accomplish amazing things.”

Filling the role of assistant principal is Hannah Pawlicki, whose promotion was announced Tuesday at the Wawasee Community School Corporation board meeting.

Pawlicki has been a dedicated English Language Arts teacher at Wawasee High School since 2020, where she has become a beloved educator known for her strong relationships with students and her innovative classroom practices.

Her appointment reflects the district’s continued commitment to fostering leadership from within and supporting educators who make a lasting impact on school culture.

“Hannah is incredibly well-respected by our students and staff. She brings a unique combination of compassion, professionalism, and instructional expertise to her new leadership role,” said Geoff Walmer, Wawasee High School Principal.

“Her deep understanding of our students’ needs and her ability to build strong relationships will serve our school well.”

Pawlicki holds a Master’s degree in Education from Notre Dame of Maryland University and recently completed her School Administration Licensure Program through Bethel University.
