Picture it: the U.S.S. Fort Wayne.
Indiana Congressman Jim Banks is asking the US Navy to name a combat ship after the Summit City, citing how the greater Fort Wayne area produces many “key naval capabilities,” and adding that several national security leaders hail from northeast Indiana.
In his letter to Navy Secretary Richard Spencer, which you can read below, he notes that one hundred years have passed since the last naval ship to be named after Fort Wayne was commissioned, and also mentions General Anthony Wayne’s ties to the Revolutionary War.

In honor of northeast Indiana’s national security contributions, I’ve asked the Navy to consider naming a combat ship the U.S.S. Fort Wayne. pic.twitter.com/OY6ZpFgNaK
