Indiana's largest beer distributor is ramping up a new challenge to state law in its effort to also enter the hard liquor business. Indy-based Monarch Beverage has accused the state Alcohol and Tobacco Commission of letting politics influence its decisions and the agency's chairman of prejudice against the company. Monarch has filed documents seeking a liquor wholesaler's permit for a separate corporate entity, but the commission notified the company it intends to deny the request. Monarch's CEO says if the request is denied, they'll go to court…again. Monarch has filed four previous lawsuits over the law and has unsuccessfully lobbied lawmakers for changes.
