The Bourbon Town Council met briefly at noon Monday to consider a resolution on Public Health Disaster Declaration.
The two members present, Les McFarland and Ward Byers, voted to adopt the resolution.
Byers began by explaining Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb had issued an executive order on March 6 that declared a public health emergency for COVID-19. He went on to say that the governor’s executive order requires coordination across federal, state and local governments, first responders, private organizations and the entire health care structure of Indiana.
Byers said, “By making this declaration, the town of Bourbon joins in the interjurisdictional response and in doing so may be eligible for federal and/or state financial assistance.”
Byers said employees and volunteers of the town are encouraged to do daily assessment of their health and report any illness to their supervisors immediately.
The number of individuals permitted in an event using the rental of town-owned facilities, park pavilion and Matchett Event Center will be limited to the county’s color designated at the time of the gathering/event. Gatherings over the allowed number must obtain approval from the Marshall County Health Department.
Additionally, included in the declaration is a notice to all residents. It says, “All residents are called upon and directed to comply with necessary emergency measures, to cooperate with public officials and disaster service forces for the duration of the emergency and in execution of emergency laws, regulations and comply with the lawful direction of properly identified officers.”
