WARSAW — The National Weather Service confirmed damage caused in Bourbon was the result of an EF 1 tornado that traveled for 17 miles and had estimated peak winds of 105 mph.

The twister began east of Culver and reached peak intensity in the area of Crocus Court and Rose Lane where several homes sustained extensive damage, especially involving roofs.
The tornado continued out of Bourbon, producing sporadic tree and power pole damage until dying north of Etna Green.
On Thursday, residents were out in force early in the morning helping with the cleanup.
Jeff Wanemacher, a lifetime resident of Bourbon came down to the hard-hit neighborhood northeast of the downtown to check on his son’s house, which sustained a broken window.
He and others reflected on how sporadic the damage had been.
“So yeah, very fortunate for him … and no loss of life,” Wanemacher said.
Bourbon was one of three areas hit by tornadoes Wednesday night that passed through northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.
