With cooler weather often comes warmer meals like chili, and the annual Farmers Market Chili Cook Off.
The competition will be in downtown Warsaw Oct. 17 in the city hall plaza. All Kosciusko County chili chefs are invited to participate in the contest, which will be held during the Farmers Market from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participants should arrive by 10:30 a.m. to set up their area. Pre-registration is required, and forms can be found on the Kosciusko County Farmers Market Facebook page, any market vendor or at Latte Lounge, 108 N. Buffalo St., Warsaw.
Judging will be at noon, and people’s choice will be a penny per vote at each table. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m.
The rules state the chili must be made from scratch. Pre-made beans, mixes and chili powder may be used. The chili may be made the night before, but must be kept hot at the contest using camp stoves, crock pots or propane burners. Local produce from the market is encouraged.
Participants will need to provide three one-cup samples for the judges, as well as samples for the voters. Also, provide 3 to 5 gallons, a soup ladle and an extension cord if needed.
The Farmers Market will provide one table per contestant, small tasting cups and spoons for the voters.
The people’s choice winner will receive a prize, and the collected money will go to the winner’s choice of charity.
