WARSAW – Tony Ciriello, a former Kosciusko County coroner who currently serves on County Council, has a new job.
Ciriello was sworn in Wednesday as a deputy coroner in Marshall County.
He worked previously for 29 years in the Kosciusko County coroner’s office including eight as the coroner, but had to step aside after being elected to county council two years ago.
He said he was offered the position by Dean Byers who took over as coroner this year. He said their friendship goes back a long way.
He also oversees training and certification for the Indiana State Coroner’s Board, a task he’s been involved with for some 25 years.
“I miss doing the investigations. I miss interacting with the families, and this gives me the opportunity to keep my skillset up and continue to serve in a way I did for 30 years over here,” Ciriello said Wednesday, shortly after being sworn.
His work in Marshall County, where he is one of five deputies, will be on an on-call basis.
Ciriello also worked in law enforcement including a stint with the county sheriff’s office and as police chief in Syracuse.
He now lives in Warsaw.
“It doesn’t take long to get to the eastern side of Marshall County, which is primarily where they will use me,” he said.
At the age of 64, he said he has no interest in even thinking about retiring.
“I got a few good years in me and I want to take full advantage of them,” he said.
He said he is prohibited from working as a deputy coroner in Kosciusko County because the council controls budget decisions.
