Warsaw City Council Monday approved a 10-year tax abatement for Redwood IT.
The abatement is for real and personal property for the rehabilitation of an old manufacturing facility at 501 Argonne Road.
Dean Avey, Redwood IT, said the business works with fiber optics and will make improvements to the 20,000-square-foot building.
There will be 8,000 feet used for warehouse space with new windows, exterior sides, insulation and new utilities; 8,000 square feet for industrial space renovated for an updated office and conference room; and 4,000 square feet of office space renovated into leasable space.
There will be new electric service, new bathroom facilities, parking and landscaping updates, and repair and replacement of aging windows and facade.
The real property improvements consist of $200,000 in renovations to the interior and exterior of the existing building with an additional $30,000 in IT equipment.
Redwood IT expects to hire an additional four employees as part of the rehabilitation project.
The council also approved an ordinance for disbursement of buy money used by Warsaw Police Department.
The ordinance states the clerk-treasurer will allow for appropriations for the sole purpose of providing money to the police department. The money is to be used as buy money or for payment to informants.
The appropriations may be used for other expenses incurred in the process of investigation. The chief of police must authorize in writing a request for the money and must give a 24-hour notice to the clerk-treasurer of the city that the police department is in need of a specified sum to be used as buy money for payment of informants or for other expenses incurred in the process of investigation.
A check will be issued to the Warsaw Police Department in care of the police chief.
