Warsaw City Councilman Ron Shoemaker has filed to be a candidate for Warsaw Mayor.
He was expected to file after forming an exploratory committee for the Office of Mayor in July.
Shoemaker says he never had intentions of running for mayor until recently.
“After seeing firsthand the ongoing problems and issues, it became quite clear to me that I should. When I see a situation I know I can change for the better, conditions I know I can improve, people I can help, I just can’t walk away,” he explains.
He will now challenge fellow Republican Joe Thallemer, who is the current two-term Mayor, in the primary on May 7.
Ron Shoemaker was raised in Warsaw, a 1966 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, and attended Indiana University, excelling in debate and communication sciences.
Shoemaker went on to work with the orthopedic industry in Warsaw with Depuy. He accepted a position with Zimmer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His career with Zimmer continued, taking him to projects also in Colorado. He then became an orthopedic distributor for HowMedica with territories in Ohio and West Virginia.
Shoemaker started his political career by joining the Kosciusko County Young Republicans.
He first held public office in Fairfield, Ohio where he defeated a 12-year incumbent for a County Commissioner role. He was elected Chairman of the Commissioners that same year.
Shoemaker is a dedicated Republican. His most recent roles include Warsaw District Two Precinct committeeman and Chairman of the Third District Congressional Finance Committee.
