For the second time in three days Northern Indiana is cleaning up after severe storms. Last night’s storms may have included a tornado. A resident who lives on County Road 600 South west of Claypool says damage at his home is consistent with a tornado, but that has not been confirmed. Syracuse also took a direct hit from the line of storms that packed winds of around 60 miles per hour, heavy rain and isolated hail.
NIPSCO says at least 1,000 customers in the Syracuse area are without power this morning, and another 548 are without power in Nappanee. Those same storms first popped up in North Central Illinois, where several tornadoes were confirmed and damage was significant. Last night’s storms come on the heels of a record rainfall in Warsaw Monday. Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer says 3.74-inches of rain fell at the airport in an hour.
