Color Run For Madison Elementary Set For Sept. 17

A color run will take place Sept. 17 to help benefit Madison Elementary School through the school’s PTO.

Natalie Poort, president of the Madison PTO, said the color run will start at 9 a.m. with the starting and finishing points behind the Winona Lake Town Hall and through the paved trails and back.

Poort said the color run will be a 5K with a 1-mile option for people who don’t think they can make the full 5k. Along the course, there will be four color stations where volunteers will throw non-toxic colored powder at race participants. Each station will have different colored powder, including green, orange and pink.

One hundred percent of the proceeds of the color run will go toward the Madison PTO, she said. Every year, the PTO pays for a field trip for each grade at Madison Elementary. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the PTO couldn’t do the normal fundraisers and similar events to raise money for the field trips. Due to that, the PTO didn’t have the budget to pay for the field trips they usually do. She said she came up with the idea last fall but the PTO didn’t have time to put it together in time, so they have been working on it since last year for Sept. 17.

Poort said she hopes participants have fun at the color run and feel good the proceeds are going toward the PTO.

Online registration ends Sept. 10. The registration fee is $25. Poort said there will be on-site registration the day of the color run. Anyone can register and the only restriction is dogs are not allowed. Strollers and walkers are welcome.

If people register online by Saturday, they get a free T-shirt. For those interested in purchasing an event T-shirt, they will be available for purchase the day of the color run.
