Warsaw Police was given the OK for a fund transfer to aid in acquiring two new K-9 officers.
At Monday’s Common Council meeting, Chief Scott Whitaker requested that $30,000 be transferred from the health insurance fund to the Other Capital Overlays so the department can purchase two dual purpose K-9 officers to replace recently retired K-9 officers Dax and Mako.
Whitaker says the two officers who will train them will go and pick them out at a kennel near Fort Wayne, go to the officers’ homes for a week to get acclimated, and then head to six weeks of training.
Whitaker says things have been moving quickly and hopes to have the K-9s ready for active duty towards the end of the year.
