County Commissioners have rejected the only bid received for work on bridge 278 after Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden said it was higher than expected. Tilden recommended turning down the $586,000 bid from La Porte Construction Co. Inc. for the bridge on Front Street over Turkey Creek in Syracuse, saying it was way over the engineer’s estimate. He said he was surprised that only one firm bid after six companies picked up plans. He will put the project out to bid again at a later date.
