County officials are looking for information on a flashing LED stop sign that was taken from a dangerous intersection just a couple days after it was installed.
County Highway Superintendent Steve Moriarty said they received a call early Sunday morning that the westbound sign for County Road 300 South was missing at the intersection with County Farm Road.
A temporary sign was in its place, held down by sandbags, until Highway Department sign technician Mike Cannon came and installed a regular stop sign until a new LED sign can be put back up.
County Commissioner Bob Conley said the intersection is especially dangerous and has a history, saying his old neighbor was killed there after three kids were racing through the area from Mentone to Pierceton.
The new flashing LED stop signs were installed last Thursday evening following a $2,500 donation by nearby resident Cynthia Roderick. The signs run for nearly $1,100 each, featuring red LEDs that blink around the border of the sign.
Anyone with information on the stolen sign is asked to call the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.
