One person is dead after a crash in Miami County Wednesday evening. Around 5:30 P.M., Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff's Department were called to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at Miami County Road 850 South. An early investigation shows that 58-year-old Paul Chase, of Nashville, was driving east on CR 850 South when he left a gas station and didn't yield to traffic on southbound U.S. 31. Chase's vehicle pulled into the path of one driven by 43-year-old Carla Buss, of Galveston. Chase's vehicle was hit on the driver's side by the front of Buss's vehicle. Buss was flown from the scene to a Fort Wayne hospital with lower body injuries. Chase was unresponsive and not breathing when police arrived at the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation, but at this time, neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected to be a contributing factor.
