An Indiana law allowing some criminals to have their records expunged is drawing mixed reviews. The goal is to improve nonviolent offenders' chances of getting a job by shielding felony convictions from an employer's background check. Hundreds of offenders across the state have applied for expungement. Supporters say the law gives offenders a second chance. But some judges and attorneys say parts of the law don't make sense and argue the process can demean the justice system. At least one Superior Court Judge objects to a provision that prohibits judges from considering victims' statements. He says that provision and one that keeps the hearings confidential are an oxymoron.
