New roundabout projects are met with cheers and jeers, depending on who you talk to, but one being planned near Syracuse could make a tricky intersection much more safe…
The word “roundabout” may be a dreaded word for some to hear, but it could be a possibility near Syracuse.
INDOT says 5,000 vehicles pass through the intersection of U.S. 6 and State Road 13, and there have been more than 5 dozen crashes there in the last ten years.
Currently, the intersection is a four way stop with flashing red lights.
A similar roundabout installed at the intersection of State Roads 19 and 119 has been effective.
The plan was revealed last week at a public meeting and would cost between $1-3 million.
If approved, the project would begin in late 2020 and take a year to complete.
