A Democrat campaign bus featuring many of the top statewide candidates will be in Warsaw Thursday, but the location has been altered slightly.
Instead of parking along North Lake Street in front of the Kosciusko County Justice building, just west of the county courthouse, the bus will park on Center Street just south of the courthouse.
The rally is expected to start at 2 p.m.
The change came after Kosciusko County Republican Party Chairman Michael Ragan questioned whether the original plan would place the bus too close to the entrance used by people who are seeking to vote early.
State law requires any type of electioneering to be at least 50 feet from the entrance where people are voting. While they don’t think the original location would have created a violation, Kosciusko County Democrat Chairman David Kolbe said they were OK with the move and that, ultimately, it’s good for everyone involved.
Ragan voiced his concern to state republicans Monday and the issue was conveyed to Kolbe Tuesday.
Ragan on Wednesday said he thought the change was a good change. “It’s a better spot for them,” Ragan said, adding that the move frees up parking spots for people doing business at the Justice Building.
The tour bus is canvassing much of the state in the lead-up to Election Day Tuesday.
Among those expected to participate in the tour is gubernatorial candidate John Gregg, Senate candidate Evan Bayh, incumbent Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz, attorney general candidate Lorenzo Arredondo and 3rd District Congressional District candidate Lynn Coleman. Judy O’Bannon, the wife of the late governor Frank O’Bannon is also expected to participate, according to a news release from the state party.
The bus tour on Thursday is expected to make stops in Bluffton, Huntington, Wabash, Goshen, Elkhart and South Bend.
On Friday, the bus tour will continue and visit Plymouth, Rochester, Logansport, Knox, LaPorte, Portage and Michigan City, according to the news release.
