Doris A. Stafford of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw at the age of 87.
She was born on December 30, 1935 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Mary Jane (Horn) Harmon and James Harmon. Doris attended school in Prestonsburg and in 1950 she moved to Wabash, Indiana. She later moved to Warsaw and at the young age of 19 she caught the eye of a young man while working at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw where she passed away 68 years later. That young man became her husband, and she married James “Jim” Edward Stafford, the love of her life, on June 25, 1955. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage together before Doris went Home to be with her Lord.
Doris was one of the founding members of Warsaw’s Stafford’s Solid Waste, Inc. in 1993 and over the years she enjoyed being able to work alongside her family. Some of her favorite pastimes were finding a great deal at rummage sales, garage sales and of course a great day spent at Goodwill Stores. She loved feeding the ducks at her lake house and going to the library. Everyone that was acquainted with Doris knew that she LOVED her jewelry; the shinier the better, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and her signature…rings on every finger. Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in her late sixties and wasn’t shy about sharing her faith with customers and inviting them to church. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her husband, James “Jim” Edward Stafford (Warsaw, Indiana); three sons, Jim (Wanda) Stafford (Claypool, IN); John (partner, Teresa Jordan) Stafford (Claypool, IN); Mitch (Chiquita) Stafford (Warsaw, IN); and her daughter, Diane (Jim) Crist (Warsaw, IN). Also surviving are five grandchildren, Josh Schultz, Kimberly (Andrew) Slaymaker, Kaila (Chris) Dausman, Colten Stafford, Sebastian Stafford and five great-grandchildren, Avery, Silas, Hunter, Dean and Maddie. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Earl Harmon, two sisters, Maurine Scutchfield, Nancy Snipes, grandson, Austin Stafford, great-granddaughter, Payton Slaymaker.
Friends and family may visit from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Gospel Hill Church, 303 S Jefferson St, Silver Lake, Indiana.
Doris’ life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Gospel Hill Church, in Silver Lake, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Justin Harshman.
