FORT WAYNE – Mickgomery Hisey, a motorist involved in a crash that killed two people on Christmas, was upgraded to good condition this morning.
Hisey, 26, was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne after the crash Dec. 25, and orignally was listed in critical condition.
Police say Hisey was speeding in the area known as Crazy Corners at the intersection of Syracuse–Webster Road and CR 1200N, south of Syracuse.
Hisey passed a car in the wrong lane of traffic at the crest of the hill and slammed into a vehicle driven by Stephen Conrad, 67, Syracuse, according to police.
There are stop signs limiting travel in all directions at the intersection.
Conrad’s wife, Kim Conrad, 61, and son Stephen Conrad II, 32, were killed in the crash.
The elder Conrad, and Hisey’s passenger, Brody Jordan, 23, Syracuse, were taken to the hospital with injuries following the crash and have since been discharged.
Police have not indicated whether Hisey will be charged in the accident. However, a prosecutorial hold was placed on Hisey at the hospital. The hold alerts police when Hisey is about to be released.
Chad Hill, public information officer for KCSD, said the department usually waits for a suspect to be released from a hospital before arresting them, in order for the county to avoid paying the medical bills.
The results of a drug and alcohol test performed on Hisey after the crash have not been released by law enforcement.
