The Elkhart City Council has defeated a proposal to annex Area 10, despite working with a revised proposal that reduced the number of homes. The last-minute proposal took the number of homes from 86 down to 21, but The Elkhart Truth reports the council still didn’t like the plan involving a tract of property just west of the U.S. 20 interchange and along part of Toledo Road. The vote against, came after officials heard nearly an hour of public comment all in opposition. Afterward, the council voted to approve annexation plans on four other proposals. Those included areas 12, 14, 15 and 9. With Monday night’s work, the council is done with annexation for 2014.
