Six people were indicted last week on charges relating to an alleged cocaine distribution ring based in Elkhart and extending to Columbus, Ohio, as reported by our news partners The Elkhart Truth.
Aurelio Cervantes and Omar Loza were arrested Wednesday, Oct. 21, and face 15 and 14 charges, respectively. The other suspects are Jose B. Pena, Jose C. Pena and Hector Lopez Jr., who face 11 charges each, and Kristina Jimenez, who faces three charges.
The charges include conspiracy to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver, delivering and receiving shipments of cocaine and racketeering.
The arrests of Cervantes and Loza happened on the same day that federal agents executed a search warrant at the Super Mex Fresh Market grocery store at 240 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. The owners of the store are Aurelio and Jose Cervantes of Donna Texas, according to property tax records.
Federal officials have not confirmed that the two cases are related, The Truth reported.
