GOSHEN — The Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds kicked off a major construction project for the Elkhart County Community Center.
In July, the Fair announced there would be an extensive renovation and expansion project for the building. Partnering with Ancon Construction, this transformative project aims to modernize the facility, enhance its functionality, and expand its capacity to better serve the community, 4-H, and year-round clients.
The ECCC as it stands today was built in 1991 and has remained the same with minor upgrades over the past few decades.
The Elkhart County Fair Board and Staff are excited about this expansion and renovation of the space that has long held 4-H exhibits, wedding receptions, banquets, fundraisers, tradeshows, and more.
“Expansion is essential for our community. By expanding the building, we can create more space for the community to gather, connect, and engage in various activities. Ancon Construction was selected to lead the ECCC project. Their reputation for quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and experience made them a great fit to partner with our organization to achieve the goals of this project,” said Shelly Steury, General Manager of the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Key highlights of the project:
- Modernization: Comprehensive upgrades to the building’s interior and exterior appeal, visual and audio capabilities, fire suppression systems, and HVAC systems.
- Expansion: An additional 5,000 square feet of interior space will be added, providing larger rental space, and Community Spaces: In addition to the extended interior space, an outdoor patio and rooftop deck will be constructed to offer outdoor seating for public events and create more intimate rental space for weddings, private parties, and fundraisers.
- Parking: The parking lot will be repaved and extended towards CR 34 to update the existing parking lot and increase parking spaces by 80%.
Ben King, Architect at Ancon Construction commented, “Ancon Construction is proud to partner with the Elkhart County Fair on the Elkhart County Community Center (ECCC) project. Our design goals are centered on embodying the Fair’s values, as this facility serves as the gateway to the fairgrounds. Collaborating with Shelly, Randi, and the team has been a pleasure, and we are excited to bring this project to life.”
The ECCC project is expected to be completed by the Spring of 2025. During construction, the ECCC will remain operational, with careful planning to minimize disruptions to ongoing events.
