Elkhart Man Arrested In Connection To June Robbery

An Elkhart man is behind bars–charged in connection with the armed robbery at a Marathon gas station in Elkhart last summer. It was back on June 30th when police say 19-year-old Devonta Lemons walked into the Marathon station in the 100 block of East Bristol Street and asked to use the restroom. Shortly after he left, two masked men entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint, taking cash and cigarettes. After the robbery, an Elkhart police officer saw a car with its lights off run a red light. The officer tried to pull the car over and saw a passenger jump out from the back seat and run off. The car crashed into a fence, police say, and three more suspects, including Lemons, ran from the crash. Lemons' co-defendants said he acted as a lookout for the others who robbed the station. His trial is set for February. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
