An Elkhart man faces two charges of child molesting after police say he touched two young children inappropriately. 20 year-old Mitchel Jay Allen Werling was living with a relative and four young children to whom he was not related last spring. He was asked to leave the home and was reported to police after one of the children told an adult about an incident of inappropriate touching. According to court documents, Werling allegedly told one of his victims not to tell anyone and, in exchange, gave him gifts, including video games and cookies. In an interview with an Elkhart Police detective, Werling admitted “making mistakes.” He was arrested last month… was still being held this week… and has a trial set for August. If convicted, Werling could face 4 to 16 years in prison.
