A wild two-county police pursuit has led to a 39-year-old man going behind bars.
Elkhart County deputies tried to pull over Jose Robles at about 2:40 a.m. Thursday on Old U.S. 33 and 27th street in the southwest side of Elkhart.
Robles, who allegedly gave officers a false ID, was in the process of being taken into custody when he reportedly broke away from officers, got back in his vehicle…with an officer still inside it…and tried to drive away.
Robles then got out, led officers on a short foot chase, got back in the vehicle, and took off.
He led police 12 miles into South Bend before finally being taken into custody near Sheridan and Chicago Streets.
Robles is facing charges of kidnapping, battery on law enforcement officer, resisting with motor vehicle, criminal recklessness, obstruction of justice, and misdemeanor charges of driving while suspended-prior, resisting law enforcement, false informing, and disorderly conduct.
