Elkhart Mayor denies Parks & Rec. Head Resignation

Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese has decided to NOT accept the resignation of a department director accused of embezzlement.

Randy Norton, head of the Elkhart Parks and Recreation Department, is charged with embezzlement from his previous job with a non-profit in Three Rivers. In the wake of those allegations he offered his resignation to Neese, who decided he wanted Norton to stay on the job. He released a statement about the decision saying, in part, “I can only speak to what I have witnessed of Randy Norton during his time with the City of Elkhart…Given the policies in place, I am confident that all parks funds are being managed appropriately.”

There will be still be an audit of the department, because Neese says he feels an obligation to the community to “confirm this as fact.”
