Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese announced on Tuesday, Dec. 18, that he will not seek re-election when his term expires at the end of 2019.
The following statement was issued regarding the Mayor’s decision:
“Serving as mayor of the City of Elkhart has been a great honor,” Neese said. “Each day presents a new opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others. That has been my number one priority since the day I decided to run for mayor. My greatest achievement, however, has always been my family. The titles of dad and grandpa are more important than the title of mayor.”
Neese is committed to serving the remainder of his term, expiring December 31, 2019, and will continue to focus on public safety, economic development, quality of place, and government efficiency.
Neese was elected the 37th mayor of the City of Elkhart in November 2015. He previously served as an Indiana State Representative and a member of the Elkhart City Council.
Mayor Neese’s announcement came just one day after South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced that he would not run for re-election.
