Alleged thefts from vending machines at two Milford businesses has resulted in charges against a Warsaw woman.
Jaylin S. Dunn, 25, of 923 S. Union St., Warsaw, is accused of stealing $12,112 from her employer’s vending machines and was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 8:57 p.m. Tuesday for embezzlement with a bond set at $4,000.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed July 25 in Kosciusko Superior Court, on April 17, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputy spoke with an employee at AVI Food Systems who said money had been stolen from their vending machines at Maple Leaf and Serenade Foods to the tune of $12,112, over a period of time.
The deputy spoke to a supervisor at Maple Leaf and Serenade Foods and found out that Dunn was the only person who collects money from the machines. Dunn then places the money in lock bags and into a safe, where it is then taken to AVI Food Systems for counting.
“The counting area has strict procedures, rules and video, and it was determined the money could not have been taken in the counting area. The vending machines count the money and that amount was compared to the amount of money in the money bags to determine the amount stolen,” court papers state.
Based on the paperwork, $1,514.95 was stolen in December; $2,044.69 was stolen in January; and $1,691.63 was stolen in February.
Police interviewed Dunn on Feb. 15 and she denied stealing the money. Dunn resigned on Feb. 18.
Dunn is charged with three level 6 felony counts of theft.
