A Warsaw woman is behind bars stemming from her erratic behavior following a stabbing last week.
Leslie A. Carter, 43, of Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Monday, November 21, for possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
According to court documents, on November 21, the Warsaw Police Department responded to a stabbing at an apartment located at 310 S. Indiana St., Warsaw. When officers arrived and entered the residence, they found an adult male, identified as Curtis Michael, lying on the floor with a woman sitting on his back applying pressure between his shoulder blades with a blood soaked shirt and rag.
The woman, identified as Leslie Carter, told the officer Michael had a stab wound in the center of his back, beside his spine. Officers observed blood on the bathroom floor, bathroom sink, bathroom door, and on Carter’s clothing.
Michael was transported to the hospital for his injuries via Lutheran EMS.
Officers spoke with Michael who said he and Carter were goofing around in the kitchen when he felt pain and was being stabbed by Carter. Carter told police the pair was goofing off in kitchen and she unintentionally stabbed him. She said Michael slipped and fell back into the knife.
Officers returned to the residence with a search warrant at which time Carter became agitated and started yelling derogatory names at law enforcement. Officers warned Carter if she raised her voice again she would be arrested for disorderly conduct. A Winona Lake police officer was attempting to take photographs of the outside of the apartment when Carter refused to move. Again, she began yelling loudly and was arrested for disorderly conduct.
When officers searched the residence they located a glass smoking device used for smoking methamphetamine. Authorities also located three hypodermic needles, Ziploc baggie and a metal spoon with residue on it. The needles and the spoon were field-tested and came back positive for meth.
